Pastoral Care

Primary Pastoral Care

At Austin Cove Baptist College we are proud of our caring environment and our goal is to support each student to reach their God-given potential.

In our daily activities, the core values of Courage, Persistence and Respect are integrated into our curriculum.  This supports and enables students to cope with challenges that are presented to them.

In Primary School, the Classroom Teacher is the key nurturer.  The Principal, Chaplain and Deputy Principals support the Classroom Teacher and together they work as a team to care for each individual and look after the well-being of the students.

We are blessed to have a compassionate and dedicated Chaplain at our College that cares for the wellbeing, values and spirituality of our students.  Christian Education (our ACE program) is an important component of the students’ academic programme.  The Chaplain offers information and assists students to find a better way to deal with issues ranging from family breakdown and loneliness to stress and anxiety.  Our Chaplain provides a listening ear and a caring presence for students in crisis and has a passion to improve the lives of our young people.

Secondary Pastoral Care

The Deputy Principal (Student Services) oversees Pastoral Care programs within the College, in liaison with the Heads of Year, Chaplain, Careers Advisor, Form Teachers and the Principal.

The foundation for Pastoral Care lies within the form class and with the Heads of Year Coordinators. Each Form Teacher is available for consultation with students who may have questions, or are experiencing difficulties. The Form Teacher will also be a contact person when the Head of Year Coordinator is monitoring a student's progress.

The Head of Year is available to all students in that year level and will coordinate special programs where necessary, to monitor the students progress. The Head of Year is the person responsible for liaison with parents and teachers in regard to individual students within that year group.

Parent Community

Parents are an important partnership of the Austin Cove Baptist College Community. Below, our parents discuss the value Austin Cove Baptist College plays in the education of their children.

Chaplaincy
Chaplaincy is a role that supports the emotional well being of students. While all our staff care for students, the demands of teaching make it difficult for staff to find sustained blocks of time to speak to students one on one. In these cases, the Chaplain is available to offer students one on one support. Chaplaincy is also available to support parents and care givers, offering counselling or practical care over any range of issues. Since ACBC commenced in 2011, parents and care givers have had appointments with the schools Chaplain and found this service beneficial.

Austin Cove has chaplains on both the primary and secondary campus. James Brown is Chaplain for the Primary school (Years 1 to 6) along with Roger Burnley as chaplain in the Secondary School (Years 7 to 12). Student or parents wishing to make an appointment to see a Chaplain can do so through the Student Services office. A Chaplain will then make contact to organise a suitable time to catch up. All appointments are confidential and, excluding special circumstances, occur on school grounds.
